TOWARDS A STRONGER
PICPA... EMMC
The whole EMMC team resolved
early to support the PICPA National Theme
of Solidarity, Service, Social Involvement
and Community Projects. To do this, the
EMMC team started by planning together.
EMMC Planning
Meeting: June 10 - 11, 2011
Despite the rainy weather,
EMMC held its annual planning meeting
at the breath-taking Peninsula de Punta
Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas. The advance
party was at Punta Fuego as early as 7:00am
while the rest of the EMMC team left the
PICPA MMR office at 6:30am and arrived
at the resort just before lunchtime.
The planning session
was kicked-off by a Transition Meeting
led by outgoing EMMC President Marivic
Españo and Opening Remarks by incoming
EMMC President Rommel Agasang. These set
the tone for the activities for the entire
weekend.
After a sumptuous lunch
at the San Diego Restaurant, break-out
sessions were held in the afternoon for
each committee to map out its plans for
the year under the leadership of Mai Bisnar
for the Professional Development committee,
Dennis Tatunay for the Membership committee,
and Persie Torregoza for the External
Affairs committee.
To enhance camaraderie
within EMMC, team-building activities
were conducted after the break-out sessions.
The EMMC team was divided into four groups.
Each group was tasked to take creative
photographs of five crazy situations.
The winners were announced during the
Pajama party / fellowship night on the
evening of June 10, 2011. After a highly
competitive “Name That Tune”
competition, the team sang the night away
amid free-flowing beer before calling
it a day.
Day 2 started with some
chill time at the amazing infinity pool
and awesome view of the South China Sea…perfect
setting for gigabytes of photographs!!
After breakfast, the results of the previous
day’s break-out session were presented
and discussed amid the presence and guidance
of the Board of Advisers, led by Marivic
Españo, Gerry Sanvictores, Henry
Tan, Malou Villacorta, Noemi Villaruz,
George Villaruz, and Ot Yu.
After another hearty
morning snack feast, the EMMC team headed
back to Manila armed with a solid battle
plan for the fiscal year ahead.

EMMC Regular Monthly Board Meetings
The EMMC held its Monthly
Board Meetings last 17 July 2011, 12 August
2011, and 09 September 2011, and October
29, 2011 to provide updates on the progress
of activities, discuss other important
matters, and celebrate the birthdays of
EMMC officers.
EMMC in the PICPA
MMR Officers Summit and Induction Ceremony
Despite the rainy weather,
EMMC officers attended the PICPA MMR Officers
Summit and Induction Ceremony at the fabulous
Las Casas Filipinas del Azucar in Bataan
last July 9 to 10, 2011. In line with
resort’s throwback to the era of
Jose Rizal, everyone dressed up in traditional
Filipiniana attire and performed various
traditional Filipino dance routines.
2011 Accountancy
Week Celebration
Eastern MMC officers
participated in various activities of
the 2011 Accountancy Week Celebration,
starting with an Eucharistic celebration
a PICPA Bldg and simultaneously with the
PICPA Tanim tree-planting activity at
the La Mesa Eco-Park.This was followed
by a Bowling Tournament at the SM Mall
of Asia on July 17, 2011 (Sunday). The
Officers attended MMR Day the PICPA Got
Talent during the Fellowship Night of
MMR Day on July 18, 2011 (Monday) at the
Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Intercontinental
that featured Mr. Washington Sycip as
the keynote speaker. EMMC also participated
in the PICPA Got Talent during the MMR
Day Fellowship Night where one of its
entry from SGV wowed the audience and
emerged 2nd place.
As part of the 2011 Accountancy
Week Celebration, the EMMC Day was held
last July 21, 2011 at the Little Theater
of Miriam College in Katipunan Avenue,
Quezon City. EMMC President Rommel C.
Agasang kicked-off the festivities and
welcomed the participants with the Opening
Remarks. This was followed by comprehensive
discussions f IFRS Updates by Ma. Lois
Gregorio-Abad (Senior Manager, Assurance,
Isla Lipana & Co.) and Tax Updates
by Hentje Leo Leano (Director, Tax, SGV
& Co.). To provide the audience composed
of accounting students insights regarding
their possible future career tracks in
different industries, a Career Talk and
open forum were held. Entitled “Face
the Maze: Widen Your Accountancy Knowledge”,
the panellists included Rey Formoso (ACPACI),
Gavin Lee (ACPAE), Dai Encarnacion (ACPAG),
Elah Andal (ACPAPP), and Fabian delos
Santos (ACPAPP). After a short welcome
message by PICPA MMR Chairperson Aphat
Martinez, the afternoon session saw more
career tips discussed by Marlon Valientes
(Human Resource, Punongbayan & Araullo)
in “Interview Skills and Resume
Writing Seminar”. The day was capped
off by the 3rd edition of the annual Tax
Whiz competition entitled “TAXformers:
Reign and Survive” and the book
donations. EMMC Day was efficiently chaired
by Karl Ramoso.
The 2011 Accountancy
Week Celebration ended on a high note
with the Badminton Tournament at the Metro
Badminton courts on July 23, 2011. The
EMMC officers displayed their athletic
skills not normally seen inside the boardrooms
against other PICPA members in a fun and
friendly competition to release angst
and stress from a long productive week
of promoting the accounting profession.
PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT - SERVICE
EMMC, in the performance
of its main MANDATE which is Professional
Development, has so far conducted nine
(9) relevant topics from Taxation, to
Financial analysis, to IFRS to Controls.
Watch our for more, as the Tax season
approaches.
SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT
As part of its Social
Involvement efforts to give back to society,
EMMC Officers led by Pres. Rommel R. Agasang
launched the Chapters’ CSR advocacies
called PICPA HELPS.

P - people empowerment through education.

Health: Feed A Child
Project
The chapter conducted
a feeding program to 54 beneficiaries
ages 2 to 4 at San Antonio Abad Parish,
Maybunga Pasig last Sept , 24 2011.
Livelihood Training
As part of its continuing
“Feed a Child Project” at
Maybunga, Pasig City, EMMC officers conducted
a Nutrition Seminar last September 24,
2011 in order to teach the community participants
how to take make a nutritious meal at
a very low budget . The event was well-attended
and the community participants were eager
to absorb the ideas.
People Empowerment
Through Education
The MOA signing for the
“Adopt A Scholar” project
at Culiat High School , Quezon City was
held last September 16, 2011. The project
is part of EMMC’s advocacy to provide
the educational means for worthy young
students who will become the country’s
future leaders. The Chapter sponsored
four (4 ) and another fifteen(15) High
School students by the Chapter Officers.
Other Community
Project
EMMC Sponsored fifteen
(15) kids , all beneficiaries of the Feeding
Program, to a Binyag at San Antonio Abad
Parish , Maybunga , Pasig last Sept. 24,
2011. The parents were so happy that their
children finally received the sacrament.
Students Participation
As part of its Solidarity
and Social Involvement efforts to give
back to society, EMMC officers participated
in the following student-organized activities:
EMMC President Rommel
Agasang was invited the guest speaker
at the JPIA UM Induction of Officers and
Acquaintance Party last August 20, 2011.
Francis Ricamora , President
Elect and Gavin Lee, Director for Education
were part of the panel of judges last
September 12, 2011 for the Business Case
Presentation at the UP JPIA ASSET (Accountancy
Students’ Seminar and Extra-curricular
Training) 2011, a 3-day boot camp type
seminar geared towards developing the
potentials of the future leaders of commerce
and industry. The event was held at the
Hotel Dominique in Tagaytay City.
Barely three months in
our term , the officers are indeed committed
for a Stronger PICPA .. EMMC by living
to its thrust of SOLIDARITY, SERVICE and
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILY and to which we ,in
EMMC, translate to the following core
activities: MEMBERSHIP , PROFESSIONAL
AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT.
