NMMC:
HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE
If there is one word
to describe the activities of PICPA-NMMC
for the first quarter of PICPA Year 2011-2012,
it is ubiquitous. For the period July
to September 2011, the first quarter of
the term of our president, the energetic
and bubbly, Miss Kathie Sobremonte, the
chapter participated in the activities
of the PICPA National and Metro Manila
Region and also the chapter-initiated
projects and programs in the Camanava
Area, National Capital Region, provincial
and outside the country.
HERE
Being the organization
of accountants in the Caloocan, Malabon,
Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava) Area,
the chapter conducted various activities
in this part of northern Metro Manila.
Regular monthly meeting for July 2011
was held at Max’s Restaurant in
EDSA, Caloocan City. President Sobremonte
presided the meeting. The chapter also
celebrates the birthdays of members and
officers who were born in that month.
Free seminar for Accountancy students
was also conducted on July 22 in UE-Caloocan
with the topic “Taxes: The Lifeblood
of Our Country”. The speaker for
this seminar was Ms. Kathie Sobremonte.
The seminar was well attended by students
from the various students coming from
Schools in the Camanava area. After the
activity, the chapter donated accounting
books and review materials such as Auditing
Theory, PRFS Full 2010, PFRS for SME,
Income Tax and Philippine Transfer Taxes,
Advanced Accounting and Management Advisory
Services to the participating schools.
A career orientation seminar was also
conducted on September 26 at the UE Caloocan
Campus. The speakers were Ms. Eleanore
Layug, Mr. Michael Gallego and Ms. Adora
Ambo. This activity was well-attended
by BSA students.
During the month of July, the newly
elected officers conducted courtesy
calls to the BIR offices to re-iterate

its own feeding program to benefit about
50-100 malnourished children. Ms. Angeles
Aragon is the project coordinator. Committee
Chair for Special Projects Ms. Merilyn
Torre donated P20,000 to kickstart the
project.
The chapter through the efforts of Ms.
Lolita Tang also continued its yearly
donation of school supplies to public
school students. For this year, the chapter
chose the Maysilo Elementary School in
Malabon. The donation was made on August
3 and September 15. This activity was
organized by Ms. Lolita Tang, the Committee
chair for Social Involvement.
The chapter sponsored well-thought,
relevant and reasonably-priced seminars
for its members. The seminars were conducted
at the UE-Caloocan. All the seminars
were well-appreciated and attended by
target participants. The following seminars
were conducted during the quarter:

The First General Membership
Meeting was held on September 24 at the
Max’s Restaurant in 10th Avenue,
Caloocan City. During GMM, the chapter
launched the Picpa NMMC souvenir notebook.
This is a very indispensible guidebook
for accountants. It includes information
on SSS, Philhealth, HDMF, and PhilHealth.
It also has a calendar, planner and can
be used as a notebook. Every participant
to the GMM was given this souvenir notebook.
THERE
The chapter also held
some of its activities in the other parts
of the National Capital Region.
The chapter actively
participated in the celebration of the
Accountancy Week. On July 17, the chapter
officers and members attended the Holy
Mass held at the PICPA Building in Mandaluyong
City. This activity was spearheaded by
Ms. Kathie Sobremonte and other Chapter
officers. The chapter also participated
in the annual PICPA Tanim (Tree Planting
project) at the La Mesa Dam. The chapter
sent the most delegates in this worthy
environmental project. Ms. Maria Luningning
De Guzman and Ms. Divinia Jugueta were
the coordinator for this activity. And
also on that day, the chapter joined in
the bowling tournament at the SM Mall
of Asia in Pasay City where the chapter’s
Team A was declared the Champion.
The following day, July 18, the group
also attended the Accountancy Week activities
at the Hotel Intercontinental in Makati
City. The chapter also participated and
declared champions in the Badminton tournament
held on July 23.
The chapter’s regular
monthly meeting for August and September
in Quezon City. The August meeting was
conducted at the Barrio Fiesta Restaurant
in SM North Edsa and the September regular
gathering was held in Hongkong Spring
Deer Restaurant in Timog Avenue.
The Picpa NMMC co-sponsored
a tradition that is being held before
the CPA licensure examination. For the
October 2011 exam, the chapter participated
in the “Meet the CPA Examiners”
in September 21, 2011, which was conducted
at the FEU Auditorium in Morayta, Manila.
The activity was capped by a well-applauded
closing remark by the Chapter President
Kathie Sobremonte.
EVERYWHERE
The NMMC group knows
no boundary. No place is too far in accomplishing
the chapter’s programmed activities
and projects. For the quarter ending September
30, 2011, the chapter conducted the following
activities outside the Metro Manila area
and even an activity outside the country!
BAGAC, BATAAN. The chapter
once again dominated the Induction Ceremonies
with the group’s yellow color. The
induction ceremonies and various activities
were held last July 9-10, 2011. The chapter
again showed its commitment to Picpa by
sending the most number of delegates.
BRUNEI. With the invitation
from the Picpa-Brunei, the Picpa-NMMC
traveled to the oil-sultanate of Brunei
Darussalam. Mr. Angelito Jose led the
NMMC delegation. The Picpa-Brunei members
and officers were very gracious, hospitable
and accommodating hosts. During the three-day
stay the chapter’s officers and
members had a lot of memorable tours and
sight-seeing as arranged and organized
by the hosts. They visited historical
and tourist destinations the oil-rich
country can offer. And of course, they
were treated to some of the best restaurants
in the area. One of the highlights of
the trip was a courtesy visit to the Philippine
ambassador to Brunei the Honorable Ambassador
Nestor Ochoa led by the Chapter President
Ms. Kathie Sobremonte. It was indeed a
very educational and calming trip and
a welcome respite from the exhausting,
routinary and stressful works of the guests.
The Picpa-Brunei chapter had once again
showed why Filipinos are known for its
hospitality to guests. But of course,
aside from the eyes and stomach that were
satiated, the Brunei visit also filled
the hearts of the hosts and their guests.
Friends were gained, a linkage is strengthened,
camaraderie is formed and most of all,
the Picpa’s theme this year of Solidarity
is very apparent.
While the chapter’s
officers and members are resting their
tired feet from all the travels during
the period, everyone is eager for the
next quarter in the service to the organization,
profession, members, and to the community
whether it will be here, there and everywhere.
