2008 ACCOUNTANCY
WEEK CELEBRATION
The Philippine Institute
of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)
held its successful 2008 Accountancy Week
Celebration on July 20 to 25, 2008.
With our President, Ms.
Ruby R. Seballe as Chair of the Accountancy
Week MMR Day Committee, SMMC participated
in full force for this year’s Accountancy
Week Celebration, starting with the Eucharistic
Celebration at the PICPA House at 8 am
on Sunday, July 20, 2008.
SPORTS FEST
SMMC participated by
fielding strong teams in the Sports Fest
which started at 9 am, August 20. In the
morning, a badminton tournament took place
at Metro Badminton Courts in Pioneer,
Pasig, wherein two SMMC tandems won the
doubles ladies’ matches. This was
followed in the afternoon by a bowling
tournament at SM Megamall Bowling Lanes
which saw SMMC Past President and National
Director Violeta Josef throw the ceremonial
roll.
MMR DAY
During the Opening Rites
of the week long event and MMR Day at
the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental,
Makati City on Monday, July 21, the SMMC
together with the other chapters’
officers/ members and colleagues from
different business sectors attended the
Technical Sessions. SMMC President and
MMR Day Committee Chair, Ruby Seballe
delivered the welcome message and formally
declared the opening of the MMR Day.

Josef, Director for Professional Development
Dr. Cesar Mansibang, Director for Education
and Professional Development Ms. Leticia
Tagle received special awards during the
opening rites.
President Ruby Seballe
later led the National Officers and other
Chapter Presidents in presenting the plaques
of appreciation to the keynote speaker,
Honorable Senator Francis “Chiz”
Escudero and to the other speakers Hon.
Nelson Aspe, Deputy Commissioner of the
BIR, Mr. Edgar Chua, Country Chairman,
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., Atty.
Gracia Casals-Diaz, OIC, Office of the
General Accountant, SEC, Mr. Wilson Tan,
Partner of SGV and Ms. Cory Quirino, Wellness
Icon and TV Host.
In the evening’s
Fellowship Night with the theme “PICPA
Goes to Broadway”, SMMC officers
Ms. Marie Alover and Ms. Tina Ocampo actively
participated in the presentation.
SMMC DAY
On Tuesday, July 22,
SMMC Day, the Chapter in conjunction with
the San Beda College Alabang JPIA conducted
a seminar on PFRS, Auditing and Income
Taxation at SBC Alabang, Muntinlupa City
for Accountancy students of SBC, Perpetual
Help, JRU, Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial
College, PUP, Asia Pacific College and
Assumption.
Future CPAs listened
as Dr. Cesar Mansibang, Chair for Professional
Development, spoke on The Joys of being
a CPA. Other speakers were Mr. Aaron Escartin,
Partner, SGV & Co., who lectured on
Income Taxation; Ms. Sheila Gadiaza and
Mr. Warren Angeles, SGV & Co. Associates,
who lectured on Auditing Updates and PFRS
and IFRIC, respectively; and Hankenson
Jane Ledres, Manager, Alba Romeo &
Co. who lectured on PRFS and IFRIC.
Ms. Tina Ocampo, Ms.
Jean Peniera, Ms. Marita Alover and Ms.
Rowena Carpio acted as moderators.

the said schools.
INDUCTION OF
OFFICERS
Together with the National
Officers, SMMC Directors and Committee
Chairs for 2008-2009 pledged their commitment
to this year’s PICPA goals and support
to the new PICPA National President, Mr.
Protacio Tacandong during the Joint Induction
and Turn Over Ceremonies held at 6PM to
11PM on July 23, Wednesday at the Grand
Ballroom of the Hotel Intercon, Makati.

Past President, made the closing remarks.

MEETING
SMMC Officers attended
the Annual Business Meeting held at the
Hotel Intercon, Grand Ballroom at 1PM
on Friday, July 25, 2008.
JOINT ACTIVITY
WITH PICPA LAGUNA CHAPTER
On August 19, 2008, SMMC
officers led by President Ruby Seballe,
Ms. Lizabeth Non, Ms. Linda Abrigo, Committee
Chair for Membership, and Secretary Ms.
Tess Del Rosario, together with officers
of the Laguna Chapter of PICPA Southern
Luzon Region headed by Ms. Maria Jovita
Agnas, Chapter President joined Finance
and Audit Officers of the Inquirer Group
of Companies (IGC) in a tour of the printing
press facilities of the Print Town Group
of Companies. Print Town officers led
by Mr. Gil L. Pangilinan, Chief Financial
Officer, Mr. Henry Santos, SVP –Newspaper
Division, Ms. Jean Camacho, VP for Operation-Commercial,
Ms. Lina Dilao, AVP- Internal Control
and Internal Audit and Laguna Chapter
past president, and Ms. Yvette Castillo,
Comptroller took time out from their busy
schedules to accompany the PICPA and IGC
visitors through a hearty lunch and a
tour of the press facilities of the Print
Town Group, the nation’s largest
printer of newspapers and said to be the
most modern and largest in the country
today. It prints such titles as the Philippine
Daily Inquirer, Bandera, Tumbok, Inquirer
Libre as well as Philippine editions of
the Asian Wall Street Journal and the
International Herald Tribune. It also
has a modern plat for printing of books,
magazines, company brochures and annual
reports. This affair had garnered several
numbers of new or activated members for
SMMC.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The SMMC celebrated a
triple birthday treat of Ms. Letty Tagle,
Ms. Beth Non, and Ms. Marita Alover on
August 26, Tuesday at Red Box Karaoke,
Greenbelt 3. The members of the SMMC braved
the inclement weather and flooded streets
to exercise their vocal cords and partake
of the celebrants’ treat.
SOCIAL COMMUNITY
PROJECT
The SMMC had a very successful
Medical and Dental Mission on August 31,
Sunday from 8am to 12 noon at TS Cruz
Subd. Brgy. Covered Court in front of
INC Church, Alabang Zapote Road, Las Pinas
City. The mission proceeded smoothly and
a record number of patients benefited
(363 medical, 67 dental, and 18 ophthalmologic
cases). The SMMC officers headed by Ms.
Ruby R. Seballe, President, and Ms. Dolores
Santiago, Chair of Social Development
Committee were present to support the
volunteer doctors.
